The S-400 Triumf is a mobile, long-range surface-to-air missile system developed in the 1990s by the Russian design bureau NPO Almaz as an upgrade to the S-300 family. It was approved for service on 28 April 2007, with the first battalion assuming combat duty that August, and its longest-ranged interceptor, the 40N6 missile, has a reported range of 400 kilometers.
