S3 (missile)

Missiles And Guided Munitions

The S3 was a French land-based intermediate-range ballistic missile built by Aerospatiale, carrying a single 1.2-megatonne thermonuclear warhead and using a two-stage solid-fuel design with a range of about 3,500 kilometers. Forty missiles were built and eighteen were deployed in silos on the Plateau d Albion, entering service in 1982 and being withdrawn in 1996.
