The Sako M23 is a Finnish family of military precision rifles designed by Sako with the Finnish Defence Forces and the Swedish Armed Forces, developed after Finland issued a letter of intent for a new rifle system in May 2020. It comes in two configurations, the 7.62 KIV 23 for designated marksmen with an effective range of about 600 meters and the 7.62 TKIV 23 sniper variant effective to about 800 meters, both chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO. The gas operated design is based on the AR-10 and AR-15 platform but uses a proprietary short stroke gas piston system developed by Sako. Both Finland and Sweden have adopted the rifle for their armed forces since it entered service in 2022.
