The Skyranger 30 is a short range air defence turret system developed by Rheinmetall Air Defence, the former Oerlikon business, and shown publicly as a concept demonstrator in March 2021. It is meant to give ground units a mobile means of engaging fixed and rotary wing aircraft, small unmanned aircraft, loitering munitions and cruise missiles. The remote, unmanned turret combines a search radar, optical tracking and a 30 mm revolver cannon firing 30x173 mm airburst ammunition. Its lower weight compared with the Skyranger 35 leaves room to add very short range missiles, a laser or drone interceptors, and it can ride on lighter 6x6 wheeled vehicles. The German Army received its first test vehicle on a Boxer chassis in February 2025, and Austria, Denmark and the Netherlands have also selected the turret.
