The Star Model B is a Spanish single-action, semi-automatic pistol chambered for the 9 mm Parabellum cartridge. Star Bonifacio Echeverria, S.A. developed it as a derivative of its Model A, which used the 9x23mm Largo cartridge, and produced it mainly for export. Although it looks like the M1911 and was inspired by it, it differs mechanically: it has no grip safety, a hinged trigger, an external extractor and a non-removable backstrap, and its parts do not generally interchange with 1911 parts. The first Model B appeared in 1922 and the better known second model in 1931, and production of the original ended in 1983. During the Second World War, Germany and Bulgaria bought large numbers for military and police use, and it later served police and military buyers in several other countries. Film armorers also used it as a stand-in for the 1911.
