Stonefish (mine)

The Stonefish is a naval influence mine built by the British defense company BAE Systems, designed to sense the acoustic, magnetic, and pressure signature of a passing ship and detonate only once its onboard logic confirms a genuine target within range. It could be laid by submarines through torpedo tubes, or by aircraft, helicopters, and surface ships, and its modular warhead could be built in sizes from 100 to 600 kilograms depending on the target. A later Mark III version was selected in 2000 for the Royal Australian Navy under Project 2045 Phase 1A, though that program was later cancelled, and there has been long-standing speculation that South Africa, Chile, Iraq, Libya, and other countries obtained the design or comparable technology.
