Thin Man was the code name for a proposed plutonium-fueled gun-type nuclear bomb that the United States partially developed during the Manhattan Project, before its development was abandoned in 1944 after researchers discovered that the spontaneous fission rate of reactor-bred plutonium was too high for a gun-type design because of the concentration of the isotope plutonium-240.
