Type 1 heavy machine gun

Machine Guns And Automatic Weapons

The Type 1 heavy machine gun was a gas-operated heavy machine gun fielded by the Imperial Japanese Army in the later stages of the Second World War. Designed in 1940 and 1941 and in service from 1942 to 1945, it fired the 7.7×58mm Arisaka cartridge at 400 to 450 rounds per minute from 30-round metal feed trays. With its tripod the gun weighed about 36.8 kilograms. It appears to have been meant to replace the older Type 92 heavy machine gun, but it never reached the same level of mass production, whether because of material shortages or because the Type 92 was judged acceptable. Indonesia is also listed among its users.
