Type 12 surface-to-ship missile

Missiles And Guided Munitions

The Type 12 surface-to-ship missile is a Japanese truck-mounted anti-ship missile developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and fielded as an upgrade of the earlier Type 88 surface-to-ship missile. It steers by inertial navigation with mid-course satellite guidance, and enhanced terrain contour matching and target discrimination give it better precision than its predecessor. The weapon is networked, so initial and mid-course targeting can come from other platforms, and it offers shorter reload times and lower lifecycle costs, with a range of about 200 kilometers. It shares its Ka-band active electronically scanned array radar seeker with the AAM-4B air-to-air missile. The design has produced a family of derivatives: the Type 17 ship-launched version, the Type 12 Kai with a range of 400 kilometers, the Type 23 air-launched version for the P-1 patrol aircraft, and the longer-range Type 25 ground-launched version.
