The Type 93 13 mm heavy machine gun was a Japanese license-built copy of the French Hotchkiss M1930 machine gun. The Imperial Japanese Army called it the Type Ho 13 mm anti-aircraft machine cannon, and the Imperial Japanese Navy also fielded it, built at the Yokosuka Naval Yard. It was a gas-operated, fully automatic weapon firing the 13.2x99mm Hotchkiss cartridge at about 450 rounds a minute, weighed about 42 kilograms empty and used a spiderweb anti-aircraft iron sight. Designed in 1933 and produced from 1935 to 1945, it served on pedestal and tripod mounts, including single and dual mounts, against aircraft out to roughly 1,000 meters. Japan used it in the Second Sino-Japanese War and World War II, and it later appeared with Indonesian forces, and possibly with Chinese and Korean forces in the Chinese Civil War and Korean War.
