Type 93 Torpedo

The Type 93 was a Japanese oxygen-propelled torpedo that entered Imperial Japanese Navy service in 1933 and was the most advanced naval torpedo in the world at the time, reaching up to 40,400 meters at reduced speed and 96 kilometers per hour with a roughly 490 kilogram warhead. Its extreme range let Japanese warships strike Allied ships from distances the Allies assumed were beyond any torpedo, sinking 22 Allied warships during the Second World War; American naval historian Samuel Eliot Morison gave it the postwar nickname Long Lance.
