Udav

Small Arms And Sidearms

The SR-2 Udav, whose Russian name means Boa, is a Russian semi-automatic pistol chambered for the 9x21mm cartridge. It was developed by the Central Scientific Research Institute of Precision Machine Engineering, known as TsNIITochMash. The source describes a short-recoil operated handgun with a Browning-type action, in which a tilting barrel locks into the ejection opening of the slide. It has a double-action trigger with an exposed hammer and ambidextrous safety levers on the slide that also lower the hammer when engaged. The frame is polymer with a molded steel insert, and there is no manual slide release, because the slide hold-open device lets go automatically when a loaded magazine is inserted. The pistol fires 7N42 armor-piercing rounds and 7U4 cartridges with reduced bullet velocity.
