UGM-27 Polaris Missile

The UGM-27 Polaris was a two-stage, solid-fueled, nuclear-armed submarine-launched ballistic missile and the United States Navy first SLBM. Built by Lockheed and first launched successfully from a submerged submarine in July 1960, it entered service in 1961 and was deployed aboard 41 submarines through three main variants, A-1, A-2 and A-3, before the United States retired the type in favor of the Poseidon and later Trident missiles. The United Kingdom Royal Navy also adopted Polaris under the 1963 Polaris Sales Agreement and continued operating it until 1996.
