The V-1 flying bomb was an early cruise missile developed by Nazi Germany at the Peenemunde Army Research Center and first used in 1944 as the first of the Vergeltungswaffen deployed in the terror bombing of London. The Wehrmacht launched the first V-1 attacks on London on 13 June 1944, one week after the Normandy landings, and continued firing them at Britain and at Belgian targets such as Antwerp through March 1945, with roughly 10,000 launched against England and about 2,448 against Belgium.
