V-weapons

V-weapons, known in German as Vergeltungswaffen or retaliatory weapons, were a set of long-range weapons designed by Nazi Germany for strategic bombing of cities during the Second World War. They comprised the V-1, a pulsejet-powered cruise missile, the V-2, a liquid-fueled ballistic missile, and the V-3 cannon. Germany intended the weapons for a campaign against Britain, and the V-1 and V-2 were used in a campaign conducted from 1944 to 1945; after the Allied invasion of western Europe the weapons were also employed against targets in France and Belgium. Strategic bombing with V-weapons killed approximately eighteen thousand people, mostly civilians, with London, Antwerp, and Liege as the main targets.
