FAQs

What is replacing the AS-90 in British Army service?

The RCH 155, announced on 23 April 2024, with 14 Archer systems bought as a stopgap in 2023.

The British government announced on 23 April 2024 that the AS-90 would be replaced by the RCH 155. The AS-90 was originally expected to leave service in 2030, later delayed to 2032. After the 2022 invasion of Ukraine changed those plans, Britain announced in January 2023 that it would send 30 AS-90 to Ukraine, and in March 2023 it bought 14 Archer Artillery Systems to fill the gap until a new system was chosen.
