The WE.177 was the United Kingdom principal air-dropped nuclear weapon, in service with the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force from 1966 until 1998, longer than any other British nuclear bomb. Derived from the American W59 warhead design but modified for British safety standards, it was built in three variants, the tactical WE.177A of about 10 kilotons, the strategic WE.177B of about 450 kilotons, and the WE.177C of about 190 kilotons, with roughly 319 total units produced.
