The ZSU-23-4 Shilka is a Soviet radar-guided, self-propelled anti-aircraft gun developed between 1957 and 1960 and introduced into service in 1965, gradually replacing the earlier ZSU-57-2. It mounts four liquid-cooled 23mm autocannon in an armored turret linked to the RPK-2 Tobol radar, together capable of roughly 3,400 to 4,000 rounds a minute. It proved especially effective during the 1973 Yom Kippur War, where Israeli aircraft attempting low-level attack runs were repeatedly shot down by Shilkas, and it saw further heavy use in the Soviet-Afghan War; about 6,500 were built, with some 2,500 exported to 23 countries.
