The M60 is an American second generation main battle tank, standardized in March 1959. Developed from the M48 Patton, it added a more powerful 105mm M68 gun and a diesel engine for greater range. More than 15,000 M60s were built across its variants, with hull production ending in 1983, making it one of the most widely produced tanks of the Cold War. It saw extensive combat service worldwide, including with Israel during the 1973 Yom Kippur War and with United States Marines against Iraqi T-72 tanks during the 1991 Gulf War.
