The AMX-13 is a French light tank produced from 1952 to 1987. It served with the French Army under the designation Char 13t-75 Modele 51 and was exported to more than 26 other nations. Named for its initial weight of 13 tonnes, and built on a tough and reliable chassis, it mounted an oscillating turret from GIAT Industries fitted with revolver-type magazines, a turret design also used on the Austrian SK-105 Kurassier. Counting prototypes and export variants, more than a hundred versions of the AMX-13 were produced, including self-propelled guns, anti-aircraft systems, armored personnel carriers and anti-tank guided missile carriers.
