The Battle of Gettysburg (July 1 to 3, 1863) was fought in and around Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, between the Union Army of the Potomac under George G. Meade and the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia under Robert E. Lee. Won by the Union, it is widely considered the turning point of the American Civil War.
