The Confederate States Army was the land force of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War, established February 28, 1861, when the Provisional Confederate Congress created a provisional volunteer army under President Jefferson Davis. It fought United States forces to support the rebellion of the seceding Southern states until its surrender in 1865.
