Prince Mikhail Illarionovich Golenishchev-Kutuzov-Smolensky (16 September 1745 - 28 April 1813) was a field marshal of the Russian Empire, best known as the commander-in-chief who defeated Napoleon's invading Grande Armee in the Patriotic War of 1812 through a strategy of attrition and strategic withdrawal.
