Swords and sabres that soldiers carried in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, including the cavalry sabre, the Caucasian shashka, the Japanese military sword, the American Model 1913 Patton saber, the Chinese hook sword and the modern sporting epee. A weapon belongs here when its cited article describes it as a sword, sabre or fencing blade. It excludes daggers and knives. These blades equipped cavalry officers and parade units and later survive as ceremonial and sporting weapons, and they show how the sword outlived the age of the musket by carrying on in new roles.
