Man-Portable Air Defense Systems

This group collects the Missiles And Guided Munitions subcategory's man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS): shoulder-launched, individually carried surface-to-air missiles designed to be fired by a single soldier against low-flying aircraft and helicopters, most using infrared homing guidance. Its 10 members are kept separate from the sibling Surface-to-Air and Air Defense Missiles group because a MANPADS is a fundamentally different scale of system, carried and fired by one person rather than mounted on a vehicle or fixed installation, with correspondingly different range, warhead size and doctrine.
