The Remington Model 1858 is a percussion revolver designed by Eliphalet Remington and manufactured from 1861 to 1875 in .31, .36 and .44 calibers. Over 230,000 were produced and it became one of the most widely carried sidearms of the American Civil War, used by Union and Confederate forces alike and later by other nations. Its solid topstrap frame made it notably durable for the period, and many examples were later converted to fire metallic cartridges.
