The Mauser Standardmodell is a bolt-action rifle chambered for the 7.92 by 57 millimeter Mauser cartridge. It was developed in 1924 but did not enter full-scale production until 1933. Officially designed for export and for German security guards, it was used by the paramilitary Sturmabteilung and the Schutzstaffel, and export variants saw service in South America, Ethiopia, China and the Iberian Peninsula. Its carbine version was nearly identical to the Karabiner 98k, which became the standard German service rifle of World War II.
