Type 63 assault rifle

The Type 63 is a Chinese 7.62x39mm assault rifle that combined the SKS platform with select-fire capability and a rotating bolt mechanism adapted from the AK-47-derived Type 56. Introduced in 1969 to replace the semi-automatic SKS as the People's Liberation Army's standard service rifle, it was produced from 1969 to 1978 before being prematurely withdrawn due to persistent production and quality-control difficulties. Early examples used milled steel receivers, while later production shifted to pressed and riveted receivers, and the weapon fed from 20-round detachable box magazines.
