Remington R5 RGP

Small Arms And Sidearms

The Remington R5 RGP, short for Remington Gas Piston, is a carbine designed and manufactured by Remington Arms. It is an AR-15 type rifle that uses a mid-length gas piston operating system in an attempt to improve the reliability of the weapon. It also featured a monolithic upper, because the upper receiver and handguard were machined as a single piece. Produced in 2011, it carried a handguard with Q-serts, threaded inserts that let Picatinny rail sections be screwed directly into the handguard. This mounting idea predated KeyMod, introduced by VLTOR in 2012, and M-LOK, introduced by Magpul Industries in 2014. The R5 was offered by Remington until some time before 2016. A Remington representative compared it to the expensive HK 416 and said the R5 was double the price, and it is assumed that it did not sell as expected and was therefore dropped from the catalog. The article infobox classes it as an assault rifle chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO.
