The 9M133 Kornet, given the NATO reporting name AT-14 Spriggan, is a Russian man-portable and vehicle-mounted anti-tank guided missile developed by the KBP Instrument Design Bureau and entering service in the late 1990s, guided to its target by a laser beam-riding system in which the missile automatically follows a laser beam the operator keeps pointed at the target, an approach that requires the operator to maintain aim throughout the missile's flight but is comparatively resistant to some countermeasures effective against other guidance methods. Its tandem-charge high-explosive anti-tank warhead is designed to defeat the explosive reactive armor increasingly fitted to modern tanks by having a first, smaller charge detonate the reactive armor's own explosive layer before a second, larger charge penetrates the tank's main armor immediately afterward. Exported widely to countries and armed groups across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, the Kornet has seen extensive combat use in conflicts including the Syrian Civil War, the Yemeni Civil War and Russia's wars against Ukraine, credited by multiple sides with destroying tanks and other armored vehicles at long range for a relatively low-cost weapon.
