The AK-101 is a Kalashnikov assault rifle designed in 1994 and chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO for the export market, part of the AK-100 rifle family developed by Kalashnikov Concern. Gas-operated with a rotating bolt and capable of semi-automatic and fully automatic fire, it is built along the same lines as the AK-74M but incorporates composite furniture, and entered production in 1995. It remains in production and service today, aimed chiefly at customers whose forces already use NATO-standard ammunition.
