AN-94

The AN-94 is a Russian assault rifle, formally the Avtomat Nikonova model of 1994, named for its chief designer Gennadiy Nikonov, with a nickname, Abakan, taken from the Siberian city. It was designed between 1980 and 1994 as a prospective replacement for the AK-74 series, but its complexity and cost kept it from wide adoption, and it has remained a specialized weapon issued in limited numbers since entering service in 1994. Its signature feature fires two rounds before the shooter feels recoil, intended to improve accuracy in the opening rounds of automatic fire, alongside a stated cyclic rate of 1,800 rounds per minute in that burst mode.
