The ASM-DT is a Russian amphibious assault rifle meant to fire effectively both on land and underwater. It was developed in the 1990s by Professor Yuri Danilov as a replacement for the Cold War era APS underwater rifle, so that Russian special forces divers no longer had to carry separate weapons for surface and underwater work. A dual-feed, dual-magazine design takes ordinary 5.45x39mm cartridges for use on land and dart-like 5.45x39mm MGTS projectiles for firing underwater, in magazines holding thirty and twenty-six rounds respectively. The action is gas-operated with a rotating bolt, the rifled barrel has drainage channels, and the folding skeletal stock and accessory mounts follow the Kalashnikov pattern. Tula Arms produced it, and it is reported to remain in use with Spetsnaz units.
