EE-11 Urutu

The EE-11 Urutu is a Brazilian amphibious armored personnel carrier built by Engesa on the chassis of the EE-9 Cascavel, developed as an amphibious troop carrying counterpart for the Brazilian Army and Marine Corps. The first pre-production vehicles entered Marine Corps service in 1973 and serial production began in 1974; the Brazilian Army, which proved far more interested than the Marine Corps, took delivery of 223 vehicles starting in 1975. Described as the first fully amphibious armored vehicle developed in Brazil, it propels itself through water at about 8 kilometers per hour using twin propellers and was exported widely, especially in the Middle East, with more than thirty national armies and security forces operating it at various times.
