The Heckler & Koch HK32 is a prototype assault rifle that the West German firm Heckler & Koch designed and built between the 1960s and the late 1970s as a further development and modernization of its HK G3 rifle. It shares many internal parts and the roller-delayed blowback system with the G3, but unlike other G3 variants it is chambered for the 7.62x39mm cartridge and uses magazines similar to those of the AK-47, because it was meant to be exported to countries whose standard caliber was 7.62x39mm. Few examples were made and the design never entered service. The prototype was eventually discontinued as the company shifted its focus to NATO calibers, which led to later G3 derivatives such as the HK33 and HK53. A modernized civilian adaptation, the PTR-32, was designed in 2010 for the United States market.
