The K1, sometimes called the 88 Tank, is a South Korean main battle tank designed by Chrysler Defense, later General Dynamics Land Systems, together with Hyundai Precision Industry, later Hyundai Rotem, as a derivative of the Chrysler-built M1 Abrams tailored to unique requirements of the Republic of Korea Army. The original K1 entered service in 1987, with the improved K1A1 variant following in 2001 and the further-upgraded K1A2 in 2013.
