The M79 is a single shot, shoulder fired, break action grenade launcher firing a 40x46mm grenade, produced in the United States by several manufacturers including Springfield Armory, Action Manufacturing Company, Kanarr Corporation and Thompson-Ramo-Wooldridge. Officially adopted on December 15, 1960, with first deliveries to the U.S. Army in 1961, it became especially notable during the Vietnam War.
