The Marder, formally the Schutzenpanzer Marder 1, is a tracked German infantry fighting vehicle designed for the mechanized Panzergrenadiere units of the West German army. It has served as the German Army's main Panzergrenadiere infantry fighting vehicle since the 1970s and remains in use today. Developed as part of the rebuilding of West Germany's armoured fighting vehicle industry after the Second World War, the Marder has proven a successful infantry fighting vehicle design.
