Mauser Model 1893

The Mauser Model 1893, commonly called the Spanish Mauser, is a bolt-action rifle developed by Paul Mauser from the experimental M1892 rifle for the Spanish Army, introducing a short staggered-column box magazine that held five smokeless 7x57mm Mauser rounds and could be reloaded quickly with a stripper clip. It saw extensive service with Spain from the Spanish-American War of 1898 through the Spanish Civil War of 1936 to 1939, and with the Ottoman Empire during the Greco-Turkish War, the Balkan Wars, and the First World War, and its design proved influential enough that the United States developed the M1903 Springfield after facing Mauser-armed Spanish troops.
