Milkor BXP

Small Arms And Sidearms

The BXP, also marketed later as the Phoenix in the United States, is a 9x19mm submachine gun developed by Andries Piek. The fully automatic version was finalised in 1978 and a semi-automatic version for civilians followed in 1984. It was produced originally by the South African company Milkor (Pty) Ltd. During the international arms embargo against South Africa a small local firearms industry developed, and the BXP is considered the final stage of the line of hand machine carbines that began with the LDP in Rhodesia and the Kommando in South Africa. The name stands for Blowback eXperimental Parabellum. The original automatic version was intended for South African law enforcement users such as the police and the correctional services.
