The Misagh-3 is an Iranian man-portable air-defense system built around an infrared-homing missile, manufactured by the Iranian Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics and unveiled in 2017. It is described as an upgraded version of the Misagh-1 and Misagh-2, which were themselves based on the Chinese QW-18. The article's design section gives a range of about five kilometres, a maximum flight height of 4000 metres, a top speed of 850 metres per second (Mach 2.88) and a 1.4 kilogram high-explosive warhead. To defeat the flares that helicopters and fighter aircraft use against heat-seeking missiles, it is fitted with a 360-degree laser fuse: after launch a laser source inside the missile spreads light around it, and the warhead fires when light reflected from a nearby target is sensed. Iran is the listed state operator, and Hezbollah appears as a non-state operator. In the operational record, an Iranian Army spokesman said that one of the aircraft Iran claimed to have shot down during the 2026 United States F-15E rescue operation in Iran, an MC-130J Hercules, was hit by a MANPADS later reported to be a Misagh-3. That is an Iranian claim and not an independently confirmed result.
