Mustard gas, chemically sulfur mustard, is a severely toxic organosulfur blistering agent first used as a chemical weapon by the German army against British and Canadian troops near Ypres, Belgium, on 22 April 1915. The Allies later captured German mustard shells and began using the weapon themselves in November 1917 at Cambrai, France.
