RK 62

The RK 62, Finnish for Rynnäkkökivääri 62 or Assault Rifle 62, officially the 7.62 RK 62 and sold commercially as the M62, is an assault rifle manufactured by Valmet and Sako that has served as the standard infantry weapon of the Finnish Defence Forces since its introduction in 1965. It is chambered primarily for the 7.62x39mm cartridge, with variants offered in other calibers including 5.56x45mm NATO and 7.62x51mm NATO, and remains in Finnish service today, though replacement with NATO standard caliber weapons is planned.

Is the RK 62 a copy of the AK-47?

It is based on the Polish licensed version of the AK-47 design and was designed in Finland from 1957 to 1962.

Not exactly, but it is a close relative. Finland began looking at an assault rifle for the 7.62x39mm Soviet intermediate cartridge in the 1950s and studied various foreign models, with the Soviet AK-47 the most important. The RK 62 was then designed from 1957 to 1962 by Valmet engineer Lauri Oksanen and is based on the Polish licensed version of the AK-47 design. It was manufactured by Valmet and Sako and became the standard issue infantry weapon of the Finnish Defence Forces.
