The Sa 23 is one of four closely related Czechoslovak submachine guns, alongside the Sa 24, Sa 25 and Sa 26, together known as the CZ Model 23/25 series, introduced in 1948. The series was primarily designed by Jaroslav Holecek, chief engineer of the Ceska zbrojovka Uhersky Brod arms factory.
