The Schwerer Panzerspahwagen, meaning heavy armoured reconnaissance vehicle, was a series of six and eight wheeled German armoured cars used from the 1930s through the Second World War. Fulfilling traditional cavalry duties of reconnaissance and screening, the vehicles scouted ahead of mechanized units to assess enemy positions. About 130 six wheeled vehicles were built between 1932 and 1936, followed by 947 eight wheeled vehicles from 1937 to 1943, and the related Sd.Kfz. 234 family added 478 more through 1945.
