The Sd.Kfz. 251 was a German half tracked armoured personnel carrier used during World War II. Designed by the Hanomag company to carry Panzergrenadier infantry into battle, it was based on the earlier unarmoured Sd.Kfz. 11 vehicle. The Sd.Kfz. 251 was the most widely produced German half track of the war, with at least 15,252 vehicles and variants built by seven manufacturers. Its usefulness led the German army to develop the similar but shorter and lighter Sd.Kfz. 250 as a supplement.
