Seacat is a British short-range surface-to-air missile system, built by Short Brothers to replace the Bofors 40mm gun aboard warships of all sizes, and was the world's first operational shipboard point-defense missile system. It entered service in 1962, was designed for minimal modification to the ships that carried it, and saw combat during the Falklands War and other regional conflicts before its gradual retirement in the 1990s and early 2000s; a mobile land-based version was known as Tigercat.
