T-14 Armata

The T-14 Armata is a Russian fourth-generation main battle tank built by Uralvagonzavod on the Armata Universal Combat Platform and first publicly unveiled at the Moscow Victory Day Parade on May 9, 2015. Its design places an unmanned turret over the hull, with all three crew members seated together in an armored capsule at the front, and it mounts a 125mm smoothbore cannon alongside the Afganit active protection system, which combines hard-kill and soft-kill countermeasures against incoming threats. Russia originally planned to acquire 2,300 Armata tanks between 2015 and 2020, but the program suffered repeated delays and an apparent production halt announced in 2018. Rostec's chief executive claimed in March 2024 that the tank had entered service, though independent confirmation remains lacking, and reported deployments to Ukraine were later disputed, with analysts describing the vehicle as too expensive for the Russian military to risk in that war in place of the older T-90.
