T-54/T-55

The T-54 and T-55 are a series of Soviet medium tanks introduced after the Second World War, with the first T-54 prototype completed at Nizhny Tagil by the end of 1945. From the late 1950s the T-54 became the main battle tank of the Soviet Army and the armies of the Warsaw Pact, and the combined T-54/55 series is the most-produced tank in history, with estimated production between 96,500 and 100,000 units. The tanks have seen service in many of the world's armed conflicts since their introduction and remain in use by dozens of armies worldwide, and their appearance in the West in the 1950s spurred the United Kingdom to develop the Royal Ordnance L7 tank gun and the United States to create the M60 tank.
