Type 11 light machine gun

The Type 11 light machine gun is a light machine gun used by the Imperial Japanese Army from the interwar period through the Second World War, and was the first light machine gun issued by Japan. Designed by Kijiro Nambu with certain similarities to the Hotchkiss series of machine guns, it fed ammunition through an unusual hopper system that accepted five round clips, a design that proved troublesome in combat. Chambered for the 6.5x50mm Arisaka cartridge, it was issued to troops beginning in 1922 and served as a squad weapon until 1945.
